Zingaro Nature Reserve

he coast consists of a sedimentary rock rich in calcium and magnesium that dates back to the geological era of the Mesozoic.

Its shape ensures that this rock meets the sea in numerous coves, reachable along the path that crosses the reserve, completely free of driveways. The flora, which covers this little paradise, makes it a corner of Mediterranean scrub always green and is as rich as the fauna that inhabits it: among the species of mammals that can be found there are rabbit, fox, hedgehog and the porcupine, while the Speziale Mountain welcomes more than 39 species of birds. The reserve allows to keep the territory uncontaminated and also the stretch of sea that surrounds it is subject to special restrictions with regard to navigation and fishing, with the aim of encouraging the multiplication of coastal marine fauna. The reserve is now managed by the forest property of the Sicily region.
